  • Rockwell Hall of Science Additions & Renovations
CLIENT Grove City College
LOCATION Grove City, Pennsylvania
TYPE Addition/Alteration
SIZE

This competition design is for additions and renovations to the Rockwell Hall of Science for Grove City College.  The goal is to create a state-of-the-art science facility for the 21st century. Built in 1931, the existing building and its soaring bell tower are the centerpiece of the Grove City College campus.  As part of the original campus plan, the Rockwell Hall of Science faces the Lower Quad.  As the college has grown, the Upper Quad was created to the rear of the building.  To respect and take advantage of this, Breslin Ridyard Fadero Architects' design proposed the addition of a landscaped walkway, new building entrances, and a much needed Lecture Hall to the rear of the building creating a new "front" from the upper quad. Breslin Ridyard Fadero Architects' solution also proposed a separate building to house the modern labs, Faculty Offices, Common Areas, Receiving and Storage.  This separate structure would connect to the original building via a tunnel at the basement level and a glass-enclosed bridge at the second level.
