  • Moravian University Comenius Hall Renovations
CLIENT Moravian University
LOCATION Bethlehem, Pennsylvania
TYPE Renovation
SIZE

The venerable landmark Comenius Hall, originally built in 1891, was renovated to remove inappropriate finishes and to restore the integrity of the original architecture. New lighting, paint, tin ceilings and signage enhance the historic style of architecture. The wood wainscoting, missing from a portion of the hallways, was meticulously replicated. Painted woodwork was stripped to expose the beauty of the natural wood. The interior space opposite the main entrance originally housed a grand stair for the building, however, the stair had been removed and enclosed to create an office. As part of the renovations, the office wall was removed to open up and create a new study lounge. As a result, the grace of the main entrance sequence was reestablished.
